Yannick Bolasie is closing in on a return for Everton and Sam Allardyce probably can’t wait.

Yannick Bolasie was delighted to be back out on the pitch after more than a year out with a knee injury as he played for the Everton Under-23s.

Bolasie came off the bench to play the final 30 minutes of the game against Leicester City Under-23s and the Liverpool Echo pinpoints mid-January as a return date to the first team for the winger.

So while new Toffees manager Sam Allardyce won’t have the 28-year-old to call upon just yet, he can start planning for where the DR Congo international will fit in.

For Allardyce this could be very exciting because, depending on how much the injury has affected the wideman of course, Bolasie offers many things that his team are currently lacking.

Much has been made of the amount of number tens that the Merseysiders are trying to fit into their starting XI and as a result lack width, pace and runs in behind the opposition defence.

These are three things that Bolasie has built his career around and while Ademola Lookman operates in a similar style and impressed recently in the Europa League against Apollon Limassol, the former has more experience and final product to give Allardyce’s side a new element in attack.
