Tottenham Hotspur should push to sign Max Meyer immediately if they still have ambitions to get him.

Tottenham Hotspur should seize the initiative to sign Max Meyer now with the European under-21 Championship around the corner.
Meyer was a deadline day target for Tottenham Hotspur, with BILD reporting they were prepared to offer £38 million to sign the winger.
The attacker went onto have a thoroughly disappointing 2016/17 and his stock has never been lower.
A German senior international, Meyer’s poor campaign has seen him drop down to the under-21s this summer.

And while that could be frustrating for him, it gives him the platform to show what he can really do and put a torrid campaign for Schalke behind him.
Meyer’s future at the German side is in serious doubt, with BILD reporting at the weekend that Meyer has snubbed the chance to sign a contract extension.
Two weeks ago BILD reported that Schalke will push to sell Meyer this summer if he could not agree a new deal.

All of this plays superbly into Tottenham’s hands should they still want him, enabling them to sign him for a cut price fee potentially half of the £38 million speculated last summer, a real bargain.
The problem is the under-21 Championships.
If Meyer has a fantastic tournament and leads Germany to the title as is hoped, he will begin to restore his reputation in the process.
Schalke could renew their efforts to keep him with new vigour, and his price tag would soar once again.
That’s why if Tottenham are serious about adding Meyer to their squad, chairman Daniel Levy must act now while Schalke are ready to deal and while his stock is low.
There may never be a better time.
