The former Premier League star ended up joining Benevento in Italy.

Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has today been discussing how moves to both Crystal Palace and West Ham fell through during his time out of work.
“I had been in contact with West Ham and Crystal Palace since March 2017. In my mind, I wanted to go home, back to London.
“Overnight they cut off contact without explanation.”

Since then Sagna has joined struggling Italian side Benevento as they look to survive the drop in Serie A.
But surely Palace will wish they had made a move for the player?
Undoubtedly the Frenchman’s best days are past him at 35-years-old but just look at his credentials. 65 caps for France and many years at the top of his game in the highest echelons of the Premier League, Sagna has all the attributes to be a calming influence in any back-line.

Palace have also been decimated by injuries in recent weeks including at the back, with Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann and Martin Kelly all battling injury trouble.
Having the versatile and experienced Sagna at their disposal would have surely been a godsend in these tough times.
