Aryna Sabalenka jokes with team after final defeat

Aryna Sabalenka spoke openly about the experience of reaching another final while thanking those around her for their continued support.

She framed her remarks around the shared journey rather than the disappointment of the loss. The comments came during her on-court address after falling short against Elena Rybakina in Melbourne.

“Thank you to my team for always being there… for enjoying me losing finals! But also sometimes we win them so let’s hope for the best! (laughs)… Let’s hope that next year Daphne is going to be ours!”

The remarks drew laughter and highlighted Sabalenka’s ability to defuse frustration with humour.

Humour reflects mindset after Australian Open setback

Aryna Sabalenka has now finished runner-up at the Australian Open on more than one occasion, including another defeat to Elena Rybakina.

Despite that record, her tone suggested perspective rather than bitterness, and an optimism for the rest of the year.

By turning the moment into a joke about future success, Sabalenka underlined her determination to return and challenge again.

Aryna Sabalenka will hope that her loss in the Australian Open final isn’t going to set the tone for the rest of the major tournaments this year.
