Rangers are searching for a new manager after sacking Pedro Caixinha.
27 May 2000: Rangers’ Arthur Numan lifts the Scottish Cup
Former Rangers defender Arthur Numan has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks the Gers should appoint Derek McInnes as their new manager.
Rangers decided to part ways with manager Pedro Caixinha last month, ending his seven-month reign after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock.
The Gers are now going through the process of finding a new manager, and may well hope to have a permanent manager in place over the international break.
Caretaker boss Graeme Murty has started with two wins since Caixinha’s exit, but the likelihood is that Rangers look elsewhere – and one man remains the favourite with bookmakers.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has been favourite for the job ever since Caixinha’s exit, and whilst Rangers haven’t yet made an approach, he appears to be the most popular choice right now.
Now, former Rangers defender Arthur Numan – who played alongside McInnes at Ibrox – has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks McInnes has done well with Aberdeen, but most importantly, he understands Rangers and the pressure that comes with Old Firm battles.
Numan added that it was time for Caixinha to go, suggesting that his signings simply didn’t know what it took to play for a club the size of Rangers.

“Derek was a decent player but we had a massive squad and he didn’t always start,” said Numan. “I remember he came into the side against PSV in the Champions League and that is when you saw his class. He has done well with Aberdeen and all the things I hear about him are positive. You need someone that knows about Rangers and what it means to be manager. The pressure is enormous when you play with the Old Firm and not everybody can handle it.
“In the beginning you had to give Pedro the benefit of the doubt. But his team were not performing. He was getting involved with other managers and players unnecessarily. He should have been concentrating on his own team. Too many of his signings didn’t work out. They didn’t have a clue what it means to play for Rangers. Now the new coach has a massive problem trying to sort out all the players who are not up to it,” he added.
With Numan suggesting that McInnes should be first choice, it’s interesting to read that Sky Sports claim Rangers director of football Mark Allen has McInnes at the top of his wish list, seemingly agreeing with Numan’s comments – and the Gers must now make their move for the Dons boss.
