West Ham’s versatile 24-year-old has been used in an advanced position of late.
Arthur Masuaku has revealed that he is relishing playing in an advanced position for West Ham United under new manager David Moyes.
Masuaku was mainly used as a substitute by previous manager Slaven Bilic but, despite mainly being seen as a left-back since joining the Hammers, he has stepped up to play as a left winger of late.
After featuring as a left winger after being brought on as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Watford, Masuaku played the entirety of the 1-1 draw against Leicester City in the same position and produced an encouraging display.
The 24-year-old disclosed that playing as a winger isn’t a new concept to him as he was often deployed there earlier in his career.
Masuaku told the club’s official website: “I enjoyed playing an attacking role. When I was younger I played in that position so it’s not new for me.
“My ambition is to play every game. I’ve been involved in the last two, I want to keep going, keep working hard in training and be 100 per cent match fit.
“The new manager has changed some things – he’s more involved at training and if we make a mistake he will stop and explain what happened. With time we will improve a lot under him.”
Masuaku will hope to be involved from the outset again when West Ham face Everton, one of Moyes’ former clubs, at Goodison Park tomorrow night.
West Ham go into the game in 18th place, with Everton two places and two points above them.
Masuaku’s defensive attributes have been called into question at times but there is little doubt about the threat that he can provide in an attacking sense with his pace and dangerous crosses.
