Arsenal loanee William Saliba is a lucky boy.
Saliba’s loan club Nice won 2-1 away to Rennes last night but the Gunners’ centre-back cost the Ligue 1 outfit a goal.
It was 1-1 at half-time after the 19-year-old defender played a pass straight to Martin Terrier, who fired home from outside the box to equalise on 39 minutes.
Yes it was a brilliant finish, but the goal stemmed from the Arsenal teenager playing a needless searching ball which failed to reach its intended target.
And here’s how fans of the North London club reacted to the error on Twitter last night:
There was a reason as to why Mikel Arteta didn’t think he was ready for senior football in England, having failed to give him his debut during the first half of the campaign.
And in fairness to the Spaniard, Saliba’s decision making is still quite questionable.
He’s more than likely going to develop into a fine centre-back and apart from the mistake, it was a solid overall performance from the former Saint-Etienne powerhouse.
But there are still major creases to iron out and that, after all, is the purpose of his loan.
