Arsenal fans have been wanting to see the back of Shkodran Mustafi for quite a long time.
The Gunners spent £35 million on the Germany international in the summer of 2016.
But because of quite a few error-laden performances, the Emirates Stadium faithful have never really taken to the former Valencia star – and neither has Mikel Arteta.
Mustafi has only earned 44 minutes of Premier League football this season and hasn’t made a squad for a game in this competition since way back in November, illustrating that he’s very much surplus to requirements.
And speaking after Saturday’s draw with Manchester United, Arsenal boss Arteta has revealed that ‘there are some conversations’ happening about Mustafi.
It has been reported that the North Londoners could terminate his contract six months early, like they have done with Mesut Ozil and Sokratis in recent weeks.
And Liverpool have also emerged as a shock suitor, given the crisis that Jurgen Klopp is managing.
Arteta told The Mirror when asked about Mustafi: “There are some conversations going on at the moment. The club is willing to help some of them, whether we find a solution or not, I don’t know.”
With David Luiz and Rob Holding playing of their skins last night, and Gabriel, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers also in Arteta’s plans, there really is no need for Mustafi and if they can save themselves six months worth of wages then that’d be ideal.
