Arsenal stopped the rot to some extent on Wednesday.
The Gunners had lost their last four Premier League games at the Emirates ahead of welcoming Southampton to North London – their worst run of form since 1959.
But Arsenal escaped with a 1-1 draw, which looks a lot better in light of the fact that Gabriel Magalhaes was sent off midway through the second half.
It seems like the players are a little more behind under-fire Mikel Arteta than it seemed after losing 1-0 at home to Burnley this past weekend.
And the Spanish coach has told Football London that he noticed the Arsenal players on the bench rallying those on the pitch in an observation which he claims made him very proud.
Arteta said: “I saw all the players that weren’t participating and they were on the stands shouting and they were being right behind the team and living the game with them which is a really strong signal as well and I’m really proud.”
It was a tentative step forward for Arsenal and Arteta, but a step forward nonetheless.
Their next game represents a much tougher test, though, as the Gunners visit in-form Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday night.
