Mikel Arteta shared on Amazon Prime that his Arsenal players weren’t ‘threatening certain areas’ in the first half of yesterday’s win against Brighton but they did it ‘straightaway’ after the break.
Arsenal recorded a 1-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League and a much-needed boost for this side.
Whilst there was positive play from Arsenal during the first 45 minutes, they didn’t have that intent to their game, but it soon changed.
Arsenal played with purpose during the second 45 minutes and were deserving winners, as Arteta was asked what he said to his players at half-time given that they were playing with more ‘purpose’.
“That was the word that we wanted [purpose],” said Arteta. “The actions we were having with the ball. The spaces that we were attacking.
“We were not threatening in certain areas that we had to do and we did it straightaway in the second half.
“We looked much more confident. Re-energised and we played forward basically much more than we did in the first half.”

The key for Arsenal is now adding some much-needed consistency to their game and pushing up that Premier League table.
In years gone by, such a start would have left Arsenal in no-man’s land and heading towards a mid-table finish.
But this crazy Premier League season is providing surprise after surprise, so there’s no reason why they still cannot dream of a European finish.
