Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told the London Evening Standard that Willian is a good role model to have around the Emirates Stadium, even if he doesn’t say much to his teammates in the dressing room.

Willian made his debut for Arsenal at the weekend, as they stormed to a 3-0 victory over Fulham.

The Brazilian was in fine form in a playmaking role, and Arteta feels that Willian can have a big influence on Arsenal’s younger players, even though he isn’t very vocal.

“We have a lot of young players with a big talent and a big future, but they need some role models,” said Arteta.

“I think Willian is a really good one to have around the place because he doesn’t talk much in the dressing room – but he does on the pitch and that’s a good way to do it.”

Willian helped to carve out Arsenal’s first two goals in the contest.

The new signing’s shot was parried into Alexandre Lacazette’s path for Arsenal’s first, before his corner set up Gabriel for a debut goal.

Interestingly Willian was used in a central role by Arteta rather than out wide, which could indicate how the Spaniard wants to utilise him over the course of the season.

Arsenal are next in action against West Ham United next weekend.
