Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta has been discussing Mohamed Elneny after it was reported this week that he’s going to terminate the Egyptian’s contract in January.
Elneny has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, there’s no doubt about it. The midfielder has played just 49 minutes of Premier League football this season and it doesn’t look like he’ll be back in the starting Xi anytime soon.
However, despite a lack of game time and rumours of an imminent departure, Arteta claims that he’s very happy with Elneny.

Arteta wasn’t willing to say much about the midfielder other than that he was pleased with him.
“Again, I’m really happy with Mo. I won’t be discussing individually other players, and it’s no time to do so,” Elneny said.

Arsenal haven’t hesitated to terminate players’ contracts in recent years when they’re surplus to requirements, just ask Mesut Ozil, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.
Arteta says he’s happy with Elneny, but don’t be surprised if we see him moving on from the north London club in the coming months.
