Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted to Football London that he wants to upset either Bernd Leno or Emi Martinez.

With Leno back fit, Arsenal now have a real battle for their goalkeeping spot on the cards.

Leno was brilliant before injury struck last term, but Martinez surpassed all expectations after replacing him.

The Argentine didn’t put a foot wrong, as he helped Arsenal win the FA Cup.

It is now totally unclear who will go into the new campaign as Arsenal’s number one.

And Arteta admits that keeping both goalkeepers happy will be impossible.

The Spanish boss now hopes that he upsets whichever stopper he drops, so they respond by putting in even better performances on the training ground.

“I don’t want to keep them both happy, I want the one that is not playing to be upset,” Arteta said.

“But upset and then challenge the next player to make him better, or if not, earn his place to do that.

“It’s not easy to do that. I personally don’t see any different with goalkeepers to full backs. They know that, I’ve been really clear with them and hopefully they can make each other better and hopefully the team better.”

Arsenal are blessed with having two goalkeepers of such quality, but it does mean that Arteta has a real selection dilemma heading into the new campaign.

It will now be very interesting to see who he picks in the Community Shield final at the weekend, as that could give some clues over his plans for the season ahead.
