It’s no secret that Arsenal are struggling in a big way this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side are 15th in the Premier League table and after netting only 11 goals in 13 games, it’s clear that they need some additional firepower to help Pierre-Emerick and Alexandre Lacazette.
But the Arsenal boss has revealed ‘great news’ on that front.
The Gunners haven’t seen Gabriel Martinelli since March of last year due to injury, but Arteta has told Football London that the 19-year-old Brazilian, a £6 million signing in 2019, is ‘very close’ to being available for selection again.
He said: “Gabi Martinelli is very close to be available and fit to be part of us which is great news, and we will see what happens.”
One of the abiding memories Arsenal fans have of Martinelli was his wonderful solo goal against Chelsea at the start of the year.
In short, Martinelli can make things happen from virtually nothing and that’s exactly what Arteta has been missing this season.
It’s a little unfair to expect him to come in and transform Arsenal’s season, given he only has 14 Premier League appearances under his belt.
But desperate times call for desperate measures and what a boost it’ll be for the North Londoners if he’s available throughout the second half of the campaign.
