It seems as though Mikel Arteta has received a bit of a transfer boost because two reported Arsenal targets – David Raya and Said Benrahma – were left out of yesterday’s matchday squad.
Brentford were in EFL Cup action against Wycombe, with Thomas Frank leaving out the duo, who have a host of top-flight clubs searching for their signature.
90 Min did previously claim that Arsenal are planning a double raid of the Championship club, with Brentford open in listening to offers for their players.
It’s good news for Arsenal because it’s quite clear that it’s just a case of putting the right money on the table and then agreeing terms with the duo.
It could be argued that Arteta doesn’t need another shot-stopper because Bernd Leno was previously his number one, but Emiliano Martinez has done a terrific job ever since stepping in.
That has left Arteta with a headache because on one hand, he has Leno, who was one of his best players only for injury to push him out of the side, whilst the other has defied odds and surprised many with the displays he has put in between the sticks.
Martinez’s performances in North London haven’t gone unnoticed, with Goal reporting that if he doesn’t start against Fulham next week then he will look to depart.
That then may pave the way for Raya, who would slot in as a solid number two behind Leno.
Arsenal’s record transfer deals
- Nicolas Pepe
£72 million
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
£56 million
- Alexandre Lacazette
£52 million
- Thomas Partey
45 million
- Mesut Ozil
£42 million
As for Benrahma, he is a dazzler from Algeria, who will get the Arsenal fans out of their seats if he were to join the club.
There’s no doubt that Arteta could do with his added quality because his ability to put an opposition defender on their backside with a turn of a shoulder or a trick out of the Ronaldinho school book is something worth purchasing.
He still needs to showcase that he is capable of transcending that form into the top-tier, but with the right coaching, he could be one of the club’s most exciting purchases if he’s able to take his game to the next level.
