Julien Laurens says Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta ‘really likes’ Wolves transfer target and Atletico Madrid forward, Matheus Cunha, ahead of the January transfer window opening, as he told ESPN.
The European football expert and journalist added that Cunha would be a ‘really good fit’ at Arsenal and someone that could be a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal’s summer signing is set to be on the sidelines for a while after suffering ligament damage at the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Brazil.

With the Gunners sitting at the top of the Premier League table, it has left them in a spot of bother because they need to tackle this issue somehow.
Do they go and buy someone? If so, who and how far do they push the transfer boat out? Either way, if they keep faith with someone like Eddie Nketiah, then that would be a risk in itself given that he has ten Premier League goals in his career so far.
Either way, Laurens spoke about Arsenal’s current situation and the possibility of Cunha being the man to come in for Jesus during the January transfer window.
“I think they have already placed a few names, especially in the striker role or a versatile forward who can play maybe wide when Gabriel Jesus comes back,” said Laurens.
“A name like Matheus Cunha, for example, has been thrown out there. I think he is someone Mikel Arteta likes for a lot of reasons because I think he would fit quite well with what Arsenal are trying to do.
“When Jesus comes back, I don’t think Cunha, who is a sub really and a replacement at Atletico Madrid, won’t mind too much at being in this similar role at Arsenal and fighting for a place in the starting line-up.
“But knowing that there is a guy ahead of him, who is potentially better than him, so someone like that.”

CUNHA WOLVES BOUND
Well, it seems as though Cunha is Premier League-bound, but the Brazil international will be headed to the Midlands and not north London.
The sought-after forward is not part of Atletico Madrid’s squad that take on Arenteiro in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night, with suggestions he is closing on a move to Julen Lopetegui’s Wolves.
Whilst Arsenal need to find a solution for the Jesus problems, a team like Wolves, who are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League, need that attacking bite more than anyone else.
Not only are they sitting at the bottom of the league, but they have scored only eight goals this season, both Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo have scored more combined.
