Arsenal have already trimmed a lot of the fat in regards to the centre-back position as of late.

In January, they terminated the contracts of Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who left the club on free transfers.

Earlier in the window, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta loaned William Saliba to Nice after trying and failing to impress the Spanish coach during the first half of the campaign.

Saliba will be returning this summer but another central defender who the Gunners want to offload for good is apparently Calum Chambers.

According to The Express, Chambers, who cost Arsenal £16 million in 2014, is ‘set to follow’ the likes of Sokratis and Mustafi through the exit door in North London once the window opens this summer.

The former Southampton defender is a bit of an also-ran under Arteta and doesn’t look to have a real future at the club, as things stand.

Last weekend’s draw with Burnley was Chambers’s first Premier League appearance since 2019 and although much of that is down to injury, it’s clear that the 26-year-old isn’t in Arteta’s plans all that much.
