Well, Bernd Leno wound up being something of a hero for Arsenal on Saturday.
Arsenal established a four-point cushion in the race for Champions League qualification by winning 1-0 away to Aston Villa.
And despite having almost nothing to do for 90 minutes, the Germany international did pull off an excellent save in the closing stages to preserve the Gunners’ lead.
Leno hadn’t kicked a ball in the Premier League since August due to Aaron Ramsdale’s form in North London.
However, the former Sheffield United keeper missed out at Villa Park due to injury.
And Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has delivered some bad news, claiming that he’s out for a few weeks.
He told Sky Sports: “Aaron Ramsdale has got an injury, he had an injury in his oblique muscle and he will be out for a few weeks.”
Negative development
There is a reason as to why Ramsdale is Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper and fundamentally it’s because he’s absolutely brilliant.
You could argue that he’s proven the signing of last summer’s transfer window in the Premier League, coming in for a bargain £30 million.
So yep, missing him for a ‘few weeks’ is definitely a blow for Arsenal.
Remember, Champions League qualification is in their grasp but it isn’t assured.
Tottenham Hotspur still represent a genuine threat to their chances and time will tell if Ramsdale’s absence affects the Emirates Stadium outfit.
Leno is good, but he isn’t Ramsdale.
