Mikel Arteta has told Football London that Arsenal striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is ‘willing to stay’ at the club, in news which should delight supporters.
Aubameyang scored twice for Arsenal last night, as they beat Norwich City 4-1.
The rapid striker was in brilliant form, as Arsenal cruised to victory at the Emirates Stadium.
Aubayemang’s performance further outlined just how important he is to the Gunners, and his contractual situation was once again under the spotlight after full time.
Aubameyang’s current deal at Arsenal expires at the end of next season, which means this summer may be Arteta’s side’s last chance to get a sizeable, unless they can convince the 31-year-old to pen a new contract.
So far Arsenal have not been able to tie Aubameyang down, which has led to concerns rising among the fan base.
However, Arteta’s latest comment gives Arsenal supporters real hope that a new deal could be in the pipeline.
“A player that is able to score as many goals as he has in that short a space of time tells you everything about his importance to us,” Arteta said.
“We need players that can make the difference in any moment of the game every three days in different competitions.

“That’s a big task to have and he’s done that at different clubs. He’s willing to stay with us. He’s really happy where he is. He can see what we’re trying to do.
“Hopefully he can evolve as well, some parts of his game that he can improve. We’re pushing him every day towards that.”
If Arsenal can get Aubameyang to sign a new contract it will be a huge boost for the North London side.
The fear is that if Arsenal aren’t able to tie him down on a new deal then they may not receive his market value.
The Daily Express report that a bid of £50 million could be enough to convince Arsenal to sell, if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
