Mikel Arteta has revealed some ‘really positive’ news for Arsenal supporters ahead of hosting Brentford this afternoon.

Champions League-chasing Arsenal welcome their fellow Londoners to the Emirates Stadium.

And the Spanish manager has a certain Takehiro Tomiyasu available for selection once again.

The Japan international has endured a stop-start 2022 so far following niggling injuries.

But Arteta has revealed that although Tomiyasu still isn’t perfect, he is in contention to start against the Bees this afternoon.

He told Arsenal’s official website: “We are all good. The doubt was Tomiyasu, which is still not perfect, but he has trained the last few days so he is in contention and we can use him so that’s really positive.”

Massive boost

Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna last summer and despite reluctance from the supporters, he has proven an exceptional piece of business.

Still only 23, Tomiyasu set the Gunners back a bargain £20 million and he can play an enormous role in helping Arteta’s outfit clinch a top-four spot come May.

At the moment, Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League standings and four points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United.

However, the fact that the North Londoners have three games in hand over the Red Devils indicates that they’ll be favourites.
