Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has delivered a positive update on striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gunners cruised to a victory at the Emirates Stadium last night by beating Aston Villa 3-1.
It was a night packed with positives for Arteta but if there was one concern for Arsenal fans, it was around Aubameyang.
The Gabon international, who scored his side’s second goal of the game, was moving gingerly in the final minutes and Arteta took him off for Gabriel Martinelli.
With seven goals now this season, any sort of injury to the 32-year-old could have a detrimental knock-on effect for Arsenal.
But Arteta has very good news on this front, insisting that Aubameyang was only brought off due to cramp.
Asked by Football London about the player, the Spaniard said: “No, no he was cramping.”
Purple patch
Suddenly, Aubameyang is looking back to his best in an Arsenal shirt.
By his own sky-high standards, it was a poor season last time around for the former Borussia Dortmund hitman, who only managed 15 goals in all competitions.
Remember, nobody in the history of this club has reached the 50-goal mark quicker than Aubameyang, hitting it in less games than Thierry Henry, Ian Wright or Robin van Persie.
That right there illustrates just how lethal the man was for his first couple of years at the Emirates and if he can find that form again, Arsenal benefit in a massive way.
