What a miserable day it was for Arsenal on Saturday night.
The Gunners posted arguably their worst performance of the season by losing 3-0 to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium last night.
Despite the score being 0-0 at the break, Arsenal capitulated in the second half and simply couldn’t live with the opposition.
But with the North Londoners’ season being all about winning the Europa League, this defeat doesn’t change the complexion of their domestic campaign all that much because, let’s face it, they were ninth before kickoff and still being there now isn’t any more disastous.
That being said, what could be disastrous is if Kieran Tierney is out for an extended period of time – and Mikel Arteta has bad news on this front.
The Scotland international went off injured just before the break, limping off the field.
Here’s what Arteta said to a post-match press conference: “Well he felt something in his knee. He was in pain so it looks like he’ll be injured, but we don’t know for how long.”
Arteta’s side have a first-leg clash with Slavia Prague in the quarter-final of the Europa League on Thursday night and it does look ominous that Tierney’s going to be fit in time.
The 23-year-old has already had a knee injury this season, keeping him out for 28 days earlier this calendar year.
Tierney’s been arguably Arsenal’s best and most consistent player during an otherwise fairly dismal season, so to potentially miss him on Thursday – and beyond – is a potential hammer blow.
