Darren Bent has spoken about how ‘people forget’ about how Mikel Arteta booted out Matteo Guendouzi for his ‘little shenanigans’ at Arsenal.
The former striker, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan, was praising Arteta for the big calls he has made at the club and how, in time, they have proven to be correct.
When Arteta left the assistant seat at Manchester City for the Emirates, there were clear issues at the north London club and the culture needed changing.
From not including Mesut Ozil in Arsenal’s Premier League squad to stripping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captain’s armband.
At the time of those calls, many were critical of Arteta and felt that he was making a mistake.
Well, fast forward to the present, and it’s been a masterstroke from the former midfielder, which was touched upon by Bent, as he told Drive on talkSPORT (13/03/23).
“Fast forward to this season, every decision he has had to make up until this point,” said Bent. “It has been the right one.
“Whether it’s been getting rid of Ozil. Getting rid of Aubameyang. Guendouzi. People forget about Guendouzi and his little shenanigans that were going on. Arteta has to deal with all of that.”

Arsenal fans don’t want to say it out loud, and it’s understandable, but the Premier League title will be deservedly in their trophy cabinet by the time the final ball is kicked in May.
After that three-game blip, which included losing to Manchester City, the manner in which the team has responded has been outstanding.
From last-minute winners to demolishing a team like Fulham. The reaction and togetherness of the team can’t be matched.
And what’s better now is that the squad is stronger with January signings, such as Leandro Trossard, cooking, plus the return of Gabriel Jesus from injury.
