Mikel Arteta has admitted that he might have to start giving Alexandre Lacazette ‘more opportunities’ at Arsenal.
The France international scored only his third goal under Arteta last night as the Gunners secured a brilliant 2-0 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Lacazette only came on after 83 minutes and by the 86th it was 2-0 and game over for Arsenal pretty much.
The 29-year-old has only started two of the North Londoners’ five Premier League games since the season resumed last month.
And Arteta has conceded that with the quality of his goal last night, he may have to start rewarding the former Lyon marksman with more chances.
“We need to give him more opportunities to be able to do more of that, but I’m so happy for him because he completely deserves that,” he told the club’s official website.
“He really needed that. But when I asked him to come in, in three seconds he was ready to jump on the pitch!”
You can see why Arteta prefers to play Eddie Nketiah a lot of the time, for the 21-year-old might be a bigger pest for opposition defences than Lacazette.
Having said that, the Frenchman can be an absolute nightmare as well, evident by Saturday evening, and it’ll be interesting to see if Arteta does start playing him more.
