Premier League outfit Everton have been linked with Zenit St Petersburg’s Russian striker Artem Dzyuba.
Zenit St Petersburg striker Artem Dzyuba has admitted to Sport24 that he turned down a move to Everton earlier in the year – but a new addition to the Jorge Mendes agency is still being linked with a move to Goodison Park.
Dzyuba has dominated the gossip columns in recent days. Rianfan claimed that scouts from Everton, Wolves and Crystal Palace were at Hampden Park on Friday night to watch the 6ft 5ins target-man score as Russia all but ended Scotland’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020.
That was Dzyuba’s sixth goal in just five games for his country this year alone.
The 31-year-old shot to fame with a series of barnstorming performances as Russia shone at their own World Cup last summer and, speaking to Sport 24, he has admitted that he turned down the chance to join Everton eight months ago.
Though The Toffees do not appear to have given up just yet.
“Last winter, I could have gone, as I understand it, to Everton,” he said. But I didn’t want to because in the winter it would be wrong (to leave).”
Everton are still lacking a centre-forward who combines aerial presence and quality in front of goal and Dzyuba, who has four goals and four assists already for Zenit this season, certainly has a bit of the Duncan Ferguson about him.
