Speaking to BBC Sport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has set Mesut Ozil a challenge of getting at least ten goals this season.

The German midfielder was in superb form last season, managing 19 assists across the campaign, just one short of Thierry Henry’s all time record.

While his record of assisting is always strong, his goalscoring has always been a problem, with many believing he should score much more given the position he occupies in the team.

He scored his first goal of the season in the 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday, and now Wenger has set him a challenge of getting ten or 15 alongside his usual goal tally.

“Ozil is not physically there completely but what we want from Ozil is assists and goals and I hope he can get that this season, 10 or 15 goals plus the chances he creates,” he told BBC Sport.

There is no denying that Ozil does need to add more goals to his tally to given the important role he plays in the team.

In 118 games in all competitions he only has 21 goals for the Gunners, which is why he is not in that truly world class level of players at this moment in time.

Should he be able to find the back of the net regularly this season though then he could finally break into that elite group of superstars.
