Could Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney return to Everton in the summer transfer window?
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested to Football.London that Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney could join Everton in the summer transfer window.
Wenger told Football.London regarding Rooney potentially moving back to his former club Everton: “Why not? It’s possible yes – he started there.
“He is under contract with United and he has a decision to make. Will he finish his career at United or will he go back at some stage to Everton? I don’t know.”
Everton return possible?
Rooney is past his prime and is struggling for playing time at United, and it is hard to see him remain at Old Trafford next season.
If the England international forward, who has also operated as a midfielder, does stay at the Red Devils for the 2017-18 campaign, then he will be nothing more than a squad player.
Leaving United would be hard, but if the 31-year-old wants regain at least part of his old form, then he needs to find a new club.
Rooney started his professional club football career at Everton, and many Goodison Park faithful would love to see him return.
However, wages would be a problem. According to The Sun, Rooney earns £250,000 per week at United. Would Everton be able to afford that? Would the Merseyside outfit be willing to pay that much money to a 31-year-old?
