Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed to The London Evening Standard that he scouted Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli when the midfielder was at Milton Keynes Dons.

Alli joined Tottenham from MK Dons in February 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The London Evening Standard to be worth £5 million.

Wenger has revealed that the Gunners watched the England international, now 21 years of age, when he was at MK Dons.

The Frenchman has also praised the youngster, and believes that Tottenham should be praised for signing him.

“We watched him many, many times because we watched Milton Keynes a lot,” Wenger told The London Evening Standard about Alli. “He played at Milton Keynes. It’s down the road from here.

“You have to say that he has done extremely well, and he has developed very well into a very complete player.

“He is dangerous and scores goals – I think he’s scored 16 or 17 goals this year, so it’s absolutely marvellous at his age. They’ve done well to buy him and give him a chance. They deserve credit for that.”
