Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has moved to allay fears about Jack Wilshere’s fitness, speaking to the Daily Mail.
The midfielder was hoping to be over his injury troubles this summer after getting fit towards the end of last season.
Wilshere’s hopes, however, have been handed something of a blow as he picked up a knee injury during the club’s recent pre-season tour of the USA, which forced him to sit out the win over Chivas.

Wilshere has also missed the trip to Scandinavia, leading to some Arsenal fans worrying he is set for another long spell on the sidelines. Wenger has moved to dispel those fears, however, saying that he will be training with the first team next week.
“Wilshere has started to run today so it’s very short-term. He will train with us next week,” he told the Daily Mail.

It remains to be seen what role Wilshere will have to play for Arsenal this season should he come back to full fitness, as Wenger has a number of options available to him in central midfield. So, with continuing doubts about Wilshere’s long-term fitness, he may face a fight to get back into the first team.
