The midfielder has completed a move from FC Basel.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained why he thinks Mohamed Elneny will prove to be a success in the Premier League.
The Egyptian finally completed his move from FC Basel on Thursday, after a series of work permit issues held up his move to London.
They will be hoping he can come in and make an immediate impact at the Emirates, with their midfield having been hit by a series of injuries to key players already this season.
And Wenger has explained to the club’s official website the attributes that make him sure his new recruit will prove to be a smart signing.
“Overall I believe he will be a good addition to the squad,” the boss told Arsenal Player.
“He is 23 years old and has already got Champions League, Europa League and Swiss League experience. He is a player who is adaptable in midfield.”
“His strengths are his technical level, his vision, his intelligence, his disciplined attitude and his physical attitude to compete at a high level. I think he has the physical qualities to play at the top level.”
Wenger is likely to be hoping that Elneny can be a viable long-term replacement for Mathieu Flamini.
The Frenchman has stepped up admirably in the absence of Francis Coquelin to fill the defensive midfield role in recent weeks, but cannot bring the same energy and power that his compatriot brings to the side.
Wenger’s comments suggest that Elneny does possess those attributes though, and he will be hoping that his new signing can hit the ground running in the second half of the campaign.
