Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger spoke to beIN Sports about his best ever January signing as a manager.
Wenger has said many times that he isn’t a fan of the winter transfer window, but that didn’t stop him from signing a few top quality players in the middle of the season.
Arsenal signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the winter window a couple of years ago and he has arguably been the club’s best player since.
Theo Walcott, who played almost 400 games for the Gunners and scored over 100 goals, is also a fantastic shout.
The likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Jose Antonio Reyes and fan favourites like Andrey Arshavin, Nacho Monreal and Emmanuel Eboue were all bought in January but Wenger chose someone who would surprise most fans.
The former Gunners boss told beIN Sports: “‘Maybe (Nwankwo) Kanu. In the middle of the season. That had a big impact and he was a huge player.’

Kanu joined Arsenal on New Year’s Day in 1999 and spent five-and-a-half years at the club.
The Nigerian scored just 43 times for the Gunners in almost 200 appearances, which makes Wenger picking him a big surprise.
However, Kanu scored seven goals and provided two assists in just five starts that season and that immediate impact could be the reason why the former Arsenal boss rates him so highly.
