Yesterday, Jürgen Klopp held a press conference ahead of the FA Cup clash between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the German revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold had suffered a hamstring injury, which will see him miss the FA Cup encounter.
Given the fact Liverpool’s No.66 is one of Klopp’s most influential players, it’s a big blow for the Reds.
However, Arsené Wenger has already shown Liverpool how they can deal with the absence of Alexander-Arnold.
What’s the story?
Well, towards the end of his time at Arsenal, Wenger used Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a right-back on some occasions.
The £35m man actually shone in that position, earning rave reviews from many people, including Wenger himself.
As quoted by ESPN, the Frenchman said: “We looked balanced when everybody plays in their positions, and some players, like Chamberlain, are a revelation in these positions. Sometimes the system reveals the good position for a player.”
These comments came after Arsenal beat Manchester City in the 2017 FA Cup Semi-Final, with Oxlade-Chamberlain earning the Man of the Match award.
Now, we believe Klopp should take a leaf out of Wenger’s book and use the England international in that position against Nottingham Forest.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can shine for Liverpool
In our view, Oxlade-Chamberlain has the potential to thrive for Liverpool in this area.
The 28-year-old doesn’t get many opportunities in Liverpool’s midfield, so if he is chosen at right-back and does well, perhaps he should consider offering himself as deputy to Alexander-Arnold.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is quick, strong and has the stamina to get up and down the right flank, so we see no reason why he can’t perform well in that area for the Reds.
Klopp’s only other options in that area are Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley, with Neco Williams on loan at Fulham.
Hopefully, Klopp takes inspiration from Wenger and utilises Oxlade-Chamberlain at right-back against Nottingham Forest.
