The Arsenal midfielder shone for the Gunners against Crystal Palace.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been speaking following his side’s 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace this weekend, in an interview later posted on the club’s official Twitter account.
Arsenal won a hard-fought match 2-1 at Selhurst Park, with Olivier Giroud opening the scoring with an absolute humdinger of a goal.
The visitors’ lead was short-lived, with Joel Ward equalising for Palace just 12 minutes later, but an own-goal from Damien Delaney – after good work from Alexis Sanchez – ensured Wenger’s side left with all three points.
It was a disappointing day for Palace but a huge one for Arsenal, who had lost their opening match of the season against West Ham United a week earlier.
Speaking after the match, Wenger praised one player in particular – German international Mesut Ozil.
The former Real Madrid play-maker set up the first goal and looked a threat throughout, and Wenger said, “He had a very good performance. It’s a pleasure to watch him passing. He was absolutely magnificent.
This is a big season for Ozil, who is now in his third year as an Arsenal player, and if he continues to perform like this – and remain fit – there is every chance he could be the catalyst they need to return to the summit of English football.
There is a long way to go, but Arsenal’s club-record signing certainly looks to have the bit between his teeth following his latest performance.
