Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has given his advice to Tottenham Hotspur over their pursuit of silverware.

The Gunners are the reigning FA Cup winners and have won the trophy three times in the last four seasons.

Tottenham have not won any trophies since the League Cup in 2008.

Spurs finished above Arsenal in the Premier League last season, but they have been repeatedly warned by pundits and ex-players that it counts for nothing without silverware.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has now imparted his advice to rivals Tottenham on getting their first one in under Mauricio Pochettino, and says it is a mental barrier they must overcome.

He told the Evening Standard: “By keeping your nerves and getting the players to focus on what is important.

“At some stages, by fighting a little bit against your inhibitions – the fear that you won’t get over the line. Basically, you need to focus on what is important and not focus on the trophy too much.”

Arsenal had a trophyless run between 2004 and 2014, and Arsene Wenger’s job came under huge pressure.

It is still under the spotlight with their league form faltering, but the silverware has helped him, even if a growing number of fans are far from convinced.
