West Ham United entertain Arsenal at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.
West Ham welcome Arsenal just four days after securing a brilliant 1-0 win over Chelsea.
The overall performance is widely considered to be West Ham’s best for nearly 18 months given the level of opposition and there have been encouraging signs under new boss David Moyes.
Confidence is on the rise among players and fans alike but the Gunners provide another stern test for the Hammers who can potentially jump out of the relegation places with a win.
And Arsene Wenger believes Moyes’ side will have one distinct advantage over Arsenal on Wednesday night, as reported by ESPN.
“It will be (difficult) because they were unlucky against (Manchester) City and they will build some confidence from (the win over) Chelsea so it will be certainly a game with West Ham team who is more confident and more dangerous as well,” Wenger said as reported by ESPN.
“Well they had 24 hours more recovery than us you know… they have a big advantage on that front so we cannot speculate that physically they will suffer, maybe in the third game (of the week) but not (against Arsenal).”
Wenger is right that the Hammers have had an extra day of rest than Arsenal, who played on Sunday at Southampton.
But he is surely getting his excuses in early and conveniently fails to recognise the fact Arsenal have a much bigger and better squad than their London rivals.
He is not the first manager of a London club to complain of fatigue this week either after Chelsea’s Antonio Conte claimed his players are ‘shattered’ already this season.
