Arsenal are set to host Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium of Sunday.

Arsene Wenger has told the Daily Mirror, who broadcasted his press conference from earlier today, that you would have to ask Tottenham Hotspur’s squad if Arsenal have a mental advantage over them.

Arsenal go into the North London derby with a remarkable record against Tottenham.

Spurs have only ever won once at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League, with Wenger’s side dominating the fixture since the Frenchman took charge.

And Wenger said, when asked whether history puts Arsenal at an advantage: “I don’t know, you should ask them that. We try to do as well in this fixture as we can.

“This is more than the derby, this is an important game for us. It’s a home game that is big.

“We have an opportunity to show we have an interesting role to play in the Premier League and we can win these kind of games.”

When Tottenham visited the Emirates last season they were the better team for much of the contest, but could only claim a 1-1 draw.

Spurs travel to their North London rival’s home ground protecting an unbeaten record in the Premier League this season.

However, Wenger does not believe that Tottenham’s unbeaten record counts for much at this early stage of the campaign.

“No, it’s too early in the season for that,” the French manager said. “It’s important that we focus on ourselves.”

As things stand Arsenal are three points ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League standings, with both sides making encouraging starts to the new campaign.
