Daniel Sturridge showed a lot of promise during the early years of his Liverpool career, but injuries after injuries soon followed and it resulted in his career at Anfield stagnating until his departure this summer.
Arsene Wenger has expressed his disappointment at how Daniel Sturridge’s career has panned out, with the former England striker leaving Liverpool this summer.
The 29-year-old was released by the Reds in July and he went on to sign a three-year deal with Turkish giants Trabzonspor last month. [BBC Sport].
It was a sad end to Sturridge’s career at Anfield because under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers, he was arguably one of the most fiercest strikers in England’s top-flight, along with Luis Suarez.
Those are words echoed by former Arsenal manager Wenger, who would have seen Sturridge at his best, and even worst, when he was on the touchlines of the Premier League. He believes that the ‘fantastic talent’ Sturridge had has now been a ‘waste overall’.
“I always found Daniel Sturridge as a fantastic talent,” Wenger told Bein Sports. “And a waste overall with his career. I expected him to have a much bigger career than what he had. He was pure class.
“Great finisher. Great technique. Very intelligent in the box, and at the end of the day, why wasn’t he consistent? Mainly due to injuries.”
There is still time for Sturridge to get back on track in his career, but it could be a case of what type of qualities has he lost in his game that may now prove to be problematic.
The biggest of them all is his pace because during his early years that rawness he had going forward could hurt many opposition players in the Premier League.
Sturridge’s problems are perhaps an indicator as to what injuries can do to your career, as he will now be starting a new chapter in Turkey.
