Arsenal fan Asim Mohammed gives his thoughts on who should take the plaudits for Arsenal’s recent run of form.
When was the last time Arsenal won seven Premier League games in a row?
It was 2007, which is far too long ago for a club of the calibre of Arsenal.
Even so, was back then as exciting as this? I don’t believe there has ever been a better run of performances from the club than the ones we have seen over the last two months.
The games have not been against bottom of the table teams or promoted sides, this astonishing run of form from the Gunners started with the now famous comeback victory over Spurs, followed up against teams including AC Milan, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Everton.
The biggest credit should go undoubtedly to the manager, and it appears that, Arsene Wenger’s long term project with this team is starting to show its results.
This is the first season since ‘The Invincibles’ left, the majority of them, that we are not desperate for one major signing in a particular position.
We were short in at least one department every season preceding this, defence, and goalkeeper in particular in recent years. And somehow miraculously it is all solved, without Wenger needing to buy a David Luiz, Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll or Stewart Downing. Did he spend over the odds to do so?
I don’t think so, Arteta, Santos, Koscielny, and Mertesacker were recruited for peanuts considering their performances to date, compared to expensive signings being made by Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, while Woljciech Szczesny’s emergence has solved the troublesome goalkeeping dilemma in an instance.
Buy Podolski or not, midfield anchorman or not, I am not going to write my opinion on what our manager must do, as I have full faith ‘Wenger Knows Best’, while I hope he can hold onto our ‘Captain Vantastic.’
I believe still that Wenger is the only person who can lead us to success in all aspects.
As an aside, I believe the Arsenal renaissance should be credited to one of the oldest racehorses still with us.
I am glad to find hundreds who considered Tomas Rosicky deadwood are his admirers now. He has long been my favourite player and I am happy to see him proving his worth.
Rosicky being back to his best is one of the main reasons for this amazing run of form. He is very hardworking, good at keeping possession, excellent at pressing when we are without it, and very creative, always looking to attack.
Since December, statistics show we have only lost two games he has started, while we have lost four games which have seen him sitting on the bench. He has become one of our most important players and deserves all the credit he is receiving.
Do you agree Wenger and Rosicky should take the main credit for Arsenal’s resurgence?
