West Ham United have been linked with Javier Pastore, but is Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere a far simpler, cheaper and better option than the PSG midfielder?
West Ham United may have to give up on any hope of signing Javier Pastore from Paris Saint-Germain as the midfielder’s agent admits talks have begun with Roma.
As Sky Sports reports, the Hammers had been interested in landing Pastore and had even begun dicussions with the Argentina international as PSG made it clear they were willing to sell in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
However, the 28-year-old’s agent, Marcelo Simonian, has revealed that a switch to Serie A and the Italian capital could well be on the cards.
“We’ve only just started talking (with Roma),” Simonian was quoted by the Sun.
“An offer to PSG? No, there’s still nothing. I haven’t talked to him (Pastore) because we don’t have any offers yet, but everyone likes Roma.”
A cheaper option?
It is believed Pastore is seeking wages of £190,000-a-week – which would instantly make him West Ham’s highest paid player with Javier Hernandez the current top earner on £140,000-a-week (Spotrac) – and would also cost £17.5m.
That is in comparison to the £130,000-a-week it would take to secure Jack Wilshere on a four-year deal, according to the Sun, with the England international set to leave Arsenal.
Wilshere is out of contract at the end of this month and although the Gunners have made a new offer to the 26-year-old, it would see his current wages cut by 20 percent to £100,000-a-week.
So at £60,000-a-week less in wages, £17.5m less in transfer fees and with the Englishman two years younger than Pastore, surely there is only one deal that makes sense for the East Londoners?
