Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is free for the summer, following his surprise omission from Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

Gareth Southgate decided against taking Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere to Russia this summer, due to concerns over the midfielder’s fitness and ability to fit into the high-pressing philosophy, according to a report from The Times.
The 26-year-old was informed of the situation just yesterday evening. You’d think the midfielder would be gutted following the axe from Southgate, but that’s not quite the vibe given out by the former Bournemouth loanee today on Twitter. In fact, Wilshere is even responding to banter aimed at his expense.
Wilshere received a Tweet in quite poor taste at 10am today, reading:
However, it would appear that reports suggesting the Englishman wasn’t surprised, and was actually awaiting the axe were accurate, as Wilshere responded with a light-hearted Tweet -again at his own expense:

Although Wilshere was seemingly prepared for the news, a number of Arsenal fans reacted angrily to the axe, with the majority claiming that creativity will now be extremely lacking in central midfield without the long-serving Gunner around.
Things are also up in the air for Wilshere at the moment at club level with regards to his contract situation, and he will needs to clarify his future ahead of the new manager’s impending arrival.
