Theo Walcott has been in fine form for Arsenal this season.
Per Mertesacker has told 101 Great Goals that Arsenal team-mate Theo Walcott is still nowhere near his best form.
The 27-year-old has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season, netting five goals in all competitions from just eight games.
The Gunners winger looks a totally different player to the one who raised concerns over his future in North London with a series of sluggish showings last season.
It remains to be seen why he has improved so much, but Arsenal fans will not care providing he continues to be an asset for Arsene Wenger’s side.
And Mertesacker says that is exactly what Walcott will be, tipping the England forward to get even better this season.
He told 101 Great Goals: “We have many very good players in our squad. For sure, Theo and Alexis are among them.
“And Theo needs to stay fit. As long as he does I expect a lot more to come. We need him.”
Walcott joined the club back in 2006 and there is the sense that it has not really worked out for him so far, but there is time, of course, and if he maintains this level of form, or even improves on it, for the rest of the season then he will go a long way toward changing the public’s perception about him.
