Real Madrid star Toni Kroos decided to have a little dig at Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on his Einfach mal Luppen podcast this week.
The German World Cup winner, who hosts the podcast with his brother Felix, slammed Aubameyang for wearing a mask in celebrations after scoring a goal for his side.
That, predictably, irked Arsenal fans as well as the former Borussia Dortmund star. Aubameyang hit back at Kroos on Twitter where he claimed that his celebration was for his son and that he would do it again in the future.
Aubameyang’s celebrations have always been flashy. His trademark front flip, his dance moves and his famous handshake with Alexandre Lacazette often make the waves around social media, and the Arsenal star thoroughly enjoys it.
Kroos’ comments came out of nowhere this week. He also had a go at Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann for his celebrations, which was also a needless comment from one professional footballer to another.
This isn’t the first time Kroos has been on the bad side of Arsenal fans. When Mesut Ozil announced his retirement from international football after allegedly facing discrimination from the German FA, the Real Madrid man labelled his former teammate’s accusations as ‘nonsense’. (Guardian)
Ozil did not respond to Kroos’ comments then, but the Arsenal man grabbed his opportunity now. He took to Twitter to support Aubameyang’s masked celebration instead of backing his former international teammate’s comments.
The Gunners number 10 tweeted a GIF of Aubameyang celebrating a goal while wearing a mask with the caption – “The best goal celebration”. That message was clearly aimed at Kroos and the Real Madrid man wouldn’t have been too happy about it.
