Arsenal reportedly want a massive £15m for Kieran Gibbs – so Sporting Lisbon left-back Marvin Zeegelaar could be better value for Newcastle United.
Massadio Haidara is one of two left-backs likely to leave Newcastle
Sooner rather than later, Paul Dummett could be the only senior left-back at Newcastle United’s disposal.
Achraf Lazaar has already made clear his desire to leave after enduring a nightmare debut season on Tyneside while, according to The Chronicle, the injury-prone Massadio Haidara will be let go for the right price this summer.
Therefore, with Sead Kolasinac completing his much-anticipated switch from Schalke to Arsenal, it appeared that Kieran Gibbs would be the ideal addition to Rafael Benitez’s squad as he falls ever further down the pecking order at The Emirates.

However, according to ESPN, Arsenal’s steep £15 million asking price could make The Magpies think twice about handing the ten-time England international an escape route this summer.
Overpriced
Owner Mike Ashley may have promised Benitez a huge transfer warchest as he aims to prepare a squad for the rigours of the Premier League but it appears that Newcastle don’t want to spend a huge fee merely reinforcing their ranks at left-back.

As such, you wonder whether this could push them in the direction of a player who could be available for a third of the price. According to Portuguese publication Record, Spotting Lisbon left-sider Marvin Zeegelaar will be available for just £4.3 million this summer.
And the uncapped Dutchman, whose move to Norwich City fell through in January, could represent far better value for money.

While Gibbs has been stuck on the bench as Nacho Monreal continued to thrive in Arsenal colours, Zeegelaar played Champions League football against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in 2016/17 as Sporting were unfortunately knocked out at the group stage.
And Newcastle’s concern over Gibbs’ price-tag could make Zeegelaar all the more desirable.
