Danny Welbeck is only the third Arsenal player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League since the European club competition was reformatted in 1992.
Danny Welbeck scored a truly brilliant and sensational hat-trick for Arsenal on Wednesday.
The England international striker was on target three times for the Gunners against Galatasaray in the Champions League Group D at the Emirates Stadium.
It was the 23-year-old’s first senior hat-trick and helped the Gunners ease to a 4-1 victory over the Turkish giants.
| Competition | Goals | Total Shots | Shots on Target | Total Pass | Accurate Pass | Chances created | Goal Assist | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Welbeck | Champions League | 3 | 6 | 4 | 36 | 31 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 90 |
It was also the first hat-trick scored by an Arsenal player in the Champions League since Nicklas Bendtner in March 2010.
On that occasion, the Denmark international helped the North London club overturn a first-leg deficit against FC Porto and progress to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition.
In fact, Welbeck is only the third Arsenal player to score three goals in a single Champions League game since the European club competition was reformatted in 1992.
Thierry Henry was the first to do back in November 2002 when he led the Gunners to a 3-1 victory over AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
