The Arsenal defender would be an excellent addition to the Burnley squad this summer.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche has a lot of work to do at Turf Moor over the course of the next couple of weeks, if he is to build a squad capable of once again avoiding relegation down to the Championship.

Saturday’s opening day 3-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge was an incredible achievement for a club with Burnley’s limitations financially, but Dyche should not allow it to plaster over the cracks in his squad.

Since Michael Keane joined Everton earlier on in the summer, the need for another centre-back has been clear for all to see, yet the Lancashire outfit have still not made a concrete move to address that particular squad deficiency.

And with this in mind, the Clarets should consider entering the race to sign Gunners ace Calum Chambers, who has been heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace, according to the Telegraph.

The 22-year-old is wonderfully versatile, and can operate competently in both the right-back and centre-back positions – something that could prove to be vital to Burnley, what with their lack of strength in depth.

The former Southampton man is strong in the air, quick along the ground and is also technically apt with the ball at his feet. In conjunction with all of that, he is a superb reader of the game, and possesses the uncanny knack of being able to anticipate danger before it develops.

Chambers would be a sensational signing for the Clarets, and even if Dyche has to spend upwards of £16 million to being him to Turf Moor, he should not hesitate to do so.
