Arsenal’s Bukakyo Saka has posted on Jack Wilshere’s Instagram ‘all the best bro’ after he signs for Danish club, Aarhus Gymnastikforening.
Months after training with Arsenal in north London as a free-agent, Wilshere is now going to start the next chapter in his footballing life in Denmark.
When the 30-year-old posted on Instagram that he ‘can’t wait to get started’, several players, including the likes of Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Alexandre Lacazette all wished him the best.
Unless you are an absolute football nut and know about near-on every league in Europe or you are an expert in Denmark’s top-tier, then many will be asking who Aarhus Gymnastikforening are?
They aren’t even the top dogs in the Danish Superliga because that’s Copenhagen, as well as other well-known teams, such as FC Midtjylland and Brondby, who have competed in Europe before.
Aarhus Gymnastikforening are actually a seventh-placed side in Denmark and they last won the title in 1986.
Either way, this is a surprise move from Wilshere and one that he will be hoping brings him happiness and success in his footballing story.
With Hale-End duo, Saka and Smith Rowe, thriving in Arsenal colours, it just goes to show how far off the footballing cliff you can fall if things go wrong.
When Wilshere was at their age, he was regarded in a higher fashion, and by his current age, he was expected to be a senior England international.
But he is far away from that now, with injuries, lack of game time and form well and truly hurting large parts of his career.
At one point, given that he was training with Mikel Arteta’s side, some were questioning whether he would be signed up by the club again.
Well, given that he is now heading to Denmark, that just proves that was never going to be the case.
