Jack Wilshere told the Highbury Squad Podcast that Bukayo Saka has been ‘Arsenal’s best ever player’ since he became a regular.

The Arsenal favourite shared that he trained with Saka ‘a couple of times’ and he could tell he had something ‘special’.

Well, those fearless qualities were showcased last season and at Euro 2020 as England suffered heartbreak in the final against Italy.

Wilshere understands what it’s like coming through as a teenager at the North London club, as he shared his thoughts on the current hot prospect.

“When I was there, he trained with us a couple of times,” said Wilshere. “You could always tell he had something special.

“Arsene always liked him. Then Arsene left. You always worry, the new manager might come in and have different ideas.

“But we have seen his quality and his character as we have seen recently. He was 18 when he first started playing really properly and he’s been Arsenal’s best ever player since.

“Saka seems to get better and better. He’s still really young and loads of time to develop.”

Some would argue that Saka is perhaps one of the best young players in Europe right now because, alongside the likes of Barcelona superstar, Pedri, he is certainly up there.

Those qualities will be needed next season as Mikel Arteta aims to push the Gunners back into Europe.

Any sign of decline or stagnation from Arsenal then Arteta won’t be in the job for too long.

And rather than relying upon his experienced players to guide the club forward, it’s the youngsters who are shedding a light over the Emirates.
