The signing of Portuguese international Joao Cancelo by Bayern Munich was undoubtedly one of the biggest pieces of transfer news on deadline day.

Although the move had nothing to do with Arsenal directly, it could prove to be a crucial development in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal are currently fighting for the top spot in the league, and their main title rivals are Manchester City. So, when one of City’s most important players, Cancelo, joins another club it is bound to have an impact on City’s title charge.

Cancelo, who can play at right-back or left-back, has been one of the standout defenders in the Premier League over the past few seasons. His versatility, pace and ability to overlap with the forwards, has been a huge asset to City.

With his departure, City are now without one of their key players, and this will surely give Arsenal a slight advantage in the title race.

Yes, the Cityzens can call upon young hotshot, Rico Lewis, as a backup, he remains unproven and it remains to be seen how he copes with the pressures of a title push.

Moreover, Cancelo’s departure will put extra pressure on City’s defence, which has been lacking an air of quality as of late as the reigning Premier League champions’ form has dipped.

The signing of Joao Cancelo by Bayern Munich is the best signing for Arsenal on deadline day.

Although it has nothing to do with Arsenal directly, it weakens their main title rivals and gives them a slight edge in the title race. With only a few months left in the season, every little advantage counts, and the departure of Cancelo from City could be the difference between winning and losing the title.
