Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta faced the media ahead of his side’s clash against Liverpool tomorrow.

The Spaniard took over Arsenal back in December when the Gunners were in a spot of bother. His situation is, in ways, similar to Jurgen Klopp’s when he first took over Liverpool.

The Reds, like Arsenal, were far away from the top of the league back in 2015. Klopp took his time but turned things around brilliantly, helping Liverpool win the Champions League as well as the Premier League.

Arteta was asked if Klopp was the man he should follow to achieve success at Arsenal and his answer should be a wake-up call to the Gunners’ hierarchy.

Arteta told the club’s official website: “What they have done is phenomenal, obviously the first two years it took them some time to rebuild the squad and to create a new culture, a new philosophy and a game model that suited the coach.

“Then they started to recruit every single player in relation to what they needed and that’s where I think they were really smart. They bought with specificity for every position that was required.

“Financially they had a big backing and made some big signings which completely changed the club in my opinion.”

Klopp was given all the tools that he needed to make Liverpool as good as they are now.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Roberto Firmino were brought in by the German and they are among the best in their position in the world right now.

Time for Arsenal’s owners to wake up?

Arteta would love to follow the same footsteps as Klopp but he will need the board to back him. The Gunners need a complete overhaul of their defence and also additions in other areas of the pitch.

With no European football a very likely outcome at the end of this season, the Gunners will be dealt a huge financial blow. However, if there ever was a time for Stan Kroenke to pump in some cash on transfers, it is now.

Arteta is by no means as accomplished and experienced as Klopp was when he first arrived at Liverpool. However, there is something in the Spaniard that seems right and if Arsenal don’t back him financially now, they will likely regret it once he’s gone.
