Alexis Sanchez has been dispossessed more times than any player in the Premier League.
Alexis Sanchez may be enjoying a supreme start to life in an Arsenal shirt, but there is one area for improvement.
The Chilean has been dispossessed more times than any other Premier League player this season, 67 times in 21 appearances.
This is narrowly more than Sunderland striker Connor Wickham, with two Chelsea players also featuring in the ‘top’ five.
| Position | Team | Dispossessed | Won Contest | Goals | Passing Accuracy | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alexis Sánchez | FW | Arsenal | 67 | 73 | 12 | 77% | 21 | 1,761 |
| Connor Wickham | FW | Sunderland | 66 | 25 | 2 | 66% | 21 | 1,706 |
| Eden Hazard | MF | Chelsea | 59 | 106 | 8 | 88% | 22 | 1,937 |
| Saido Berahino | FW | West Brom | 57 | 17 | 9 | 86% | 22 | 1,653 |
| Diego Costa | FW | Chelsea | 56 | 25 | 17 | 79% | 19 | 1,602 |
In Sanchez’s case, being dispossessed and turning the ball over to the opposition is a natural risk of his tendency to take on opponents and dribble past them.
This has been successful on a particularly high number of occasions, and Chelsea attacked Eden Hazard suffers in the same area.
Differences between the two players’ performances show however than Hazard has completed 33 more dribbles than Sanchez, and has a superior passing accuracy, 88 per cent to Sanchez’s 77 per cent.
Sanchez’s overall contribution for Arsenal cannot be knocked, as well as his 12 goals, he has been an inspiration for the club so far this season, yet if there is one weakness to his game and area to improve, then keeping possession of the ball is clearly the area to focus on.
